Mary Christine Stohs, 89, formerly of Hanover, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Wichita. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover. Burial was in the Hanover City Cemetery. Mary Stohs was born February 20, 1919, the daughter of George and Eva Meyn, at Hanover. She graduated from Hanover High School in 1936. She attended Kansas State University, and received a teaching certificate. She taught at rural schools in the Hanover and Bremen area. She married LaVern Stohs Jan. 9, 1942, at Manhattan. She taught Sunday School and vacation Bible school and was community leader for the Bremen Hustlers and other 4-H clubs. She was a member of Zion Church, Hanover, Bremen Ladies Unit, the American Legion Auxiliary, Hanover, and the Hanover women’s club. She enjoyed baking, canning, sewing, farming, gardening and sharing produce with family and friends. Survivors include her children, Mary Meeks, Flowery Branch, Ga., Janice Mulvany, Arvada, Colo., Donna Hoover, Wichita, Carol Roberts, Shawnee, Gail Hughes, Manhattan; her brother, Paul Meyn, Overland Park; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughters, infant Alice and Doris Meyer; and her brothers, George, Oscar and Maurice. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion church and sent in care of Kinsley Funeral Home.
