Mary E. Smith, 89, of Marysville, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, December 29 at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 30, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Nathan Haverland and Father Daniel Schmitz officiated. Dolores Bruna played the organ while the church choir sang “Be Not Afraid”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles Wings”, “You Are Mine”, and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were her grandson: Jerry Koch, Matt Smith, Brent Smith, Ryan Smith, Joshua Smith, Kevin Smith, Andrew Smith, Scott Stallbaumer, Michael Christener, and Donnie Christener. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, Marysville. Mary was born November 6, 1927, in Washington County, KS, to Floyd Ferguson and Elizabeth Bonte Ferguson Waser. In 1945, she graduated from Hanover High School. Mary worked for Southwestern Bell until marrying Francis J. Smith on November 25, 1948, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. They lived on the Smith Family Farm where they raised eight children. Mary helped with the farming and was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mary belonged to the EHU, St. Gregory’s Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years, Francis; daughter, Mary C. Hildebrandt; and son-in-law, Richard Hildebrandt. Survivors include her children, Richard (Pam) Smith, Joyce (Terry) Koch, Fred (Carlene) Smith, all of Marysville, Connie (Leo) Stallbaumer, Frankfort, Ed (Kim) Smith, Derby, Jim (Cheryl) Smith, Augusta, Janet (Robert) Christener, Frankfort; and twenty-one grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and three due in the next few months.
