Bernie Krug, 72, of Marysville, KS, died January 4, 2017 at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Home in Wamego, KS. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The pallbearers were Hank Krug, Ron Grauer, Jon McNish, Dick Kistner, Greg Doll, Rick Shain, and Gary Howland. Burial with Military Honors provided the Marysville American Legion Post #163 was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Bernie was born April 2, 1944, at Marysville, son of Ralph and Laverne (Meybrunn) Krug. In 1962, he graduated from Marysville High School. He attended Kansas State University and graduated before entering the U.S. Air Force and serving in the Vietnam War. He lived in California before returning to Marysville in the mid 1990's where he worked as a stock broker. Bernie owned the Patriot House in Summerfield. He served two terms as Mayor for the City of Marysville. Bernie was a golf enthusiast and loved any Kansas State University sports and the Kansas City Royals. He was a member of the Old Buzzards in Marysville. He married Susan J. Hawkins. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents; step father, Henry "Hank" Boettcher; and brother, Mike Krug. Survivors include his son, Hank Krug, Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Sunny Groft, Charlotte, NC; special friend, Breta Bloomberg, Topeka; cousins, Susan Fincham and Judy Turner; several grandchildren and step grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the Marysville American Legion Baseball Team or Valley Vista Good Samaritan Home. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
