Thomas G. Scheetz, 69, died Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Hanover Hospital, Hanover. Visitation was Wednesday, February 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary, Hanover. A rosary service was 7 p.m., Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover. A funeral service was at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 9, at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. The organist was Janet Fritschi and the congregation sang “On Eagles Wings,” “Song of Farewell” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Daren Bruna, Keith Bruna, Shorty Goeckel, John Diederich, Doug Jorgenson and Greg Jueneman. Interment was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Hanover, Kansas. Tom was born at Odell, NE on March 9, 1947 to Aloysius and Cecilia (Loseman) Scheetz. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1965. After graduation, he moved to Maryland where he met and married his wife, Doris, on June 21, 1968. Tom attended trade school to be an electrical journeyman and later became an electrical general foreman and member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in the Washington D.C. area for twelve years. In 1982, he moved his family back to Hanover, where he grew up. Tom and his wife started a small business in 1984, called T & D Alarms and later called T & D Appliance. Tom worked for Hanover Electric for six years and then joined Travalong in Waterville, as maintenance supervisor, where he worked until retiring in 2012. Tom continued to stay busy during his retirement, doing mechanical and electrical repairs for family and friends. He enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, woodworking and creating his own electrical inventions. He loved spending time in his shop, where he enjoyed “tinkering” on many things. He enjoyed his fish pond, which he built himself, and hunting arrowheads and artifacts. Tom and his pup, Brutus, were inseparable, they would go for rides in his Ranger and his pickup. Tom was an active member of the Hanover Rural Fire Department and served as fire chief for five years. He served on the Chamber of Commerce and was president for several years and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers, Paul A. Scheetz and Charles B. Scheetz. Survivors include his wife, Doris Scheetz; son, Thomas E. Scheetz, Hanover; daughter, Doreen Zeibig, Hanover; a brother, Jim Scheetz, Webber, KS; sisters, JoAnne Habr, Superior, NE, Charlene Johnson, Waldorf, MD; and five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary, Hanover.
