Eugene Richard Runnebaum, 62, died Thursday, April 13, 2017. Visitation was Monday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside funeral service with full military honors was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Riley. Rev. Jerry Zanker officiated. The pallbearers were Bernie Runnebaum, Jr., Gerald Runnebaum, Jeff Ballman, John Runnebaum, Jr., Lee Wetter, Nick Wood, Cody Pacha, Michael Runnebaum, Shane Larson, and Jack Estes. Eugene was born February 19, 1955, at Axtell, KS, to Bernard and Mary Louise (Lake) Runnebaum. In 1973, he graduated from Marysville High School. Eugene served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1974 until retiring in 2001. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. On February 14, 1987, he was united in marriage to Lorinda Bergen at the First Christian Church in Marysville. They had a son, Andrew. Eugene was a member of KSARNG, American Legion, and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Family was the most important thing in his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard; brothers, Paul Runnebaum and Ronnie Runnebaum; granddaughter, Savannah Runnebaum; and mother and father-in-law, Jack and Nora Bergen. Survivors include his wife, Lorinda; son, Andrew (Kendall Conner) Runnebaum; brothers, Bernie (Cathie) Runnebaum, Ralph (Judy) Runnebaum, Larry (Geri) Runnebaum, Jim (Deb) Runnebaum, John (Amy) Runnebaum, Lynn (Kim) Runnebaum, Mark Runnebaum, and Greg (Linda) Runnebaum; sisters, Judy (Bob) Ballman, Lou (Jim) Wassenberg, Janet Runnebaum, and Joan (Shane) Hartner; granddaughters, Lily Runnebaum and Samantha Bolton; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is established and will be designated later by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
