Galen G. Porting, 54, of Axtell, KS, died May 18, 2017 at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, NE. Visitation was Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell, KS. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 21 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 22 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Father Barry Clayton officiated. Kathy Buessing was the organist. Music included “City of God”, “Lord of the Dance”, “Seed, Scattered and Sown”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Come Home”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “Canticle of the Sun”. The pallbearers were Chuck Porting, Ed Porting, Robert Kuckelman, John Meyer, Mike Meyer, and Sean Shaughnessy. The honorary pallbearers were Don Landoll, Rich Landoll, Phil Landoll, Phil Zimmerling, Mark Landrum, and Charles Loiseau. Burial was in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Galen was born July 24, 1962, at Axtell to Gerald “Butch” and Alice (Koch) Porting. After graduating from high school, he began working at Landoll Corporation in Marysville. He later worked for Charlie’s Construction before returning to Landoll’s where he worked for 24 years. Galen also enjoyed helping Chuck and Ed Porting with farming. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, his Kansas State Wildcats, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Alice; brothers, Pete Porting and Steven Porting; and sisters, Lisa Porting and Lora Porting. A memorial fund has been established and designated to Alcoholics Anonymous. Contributions may be sent in care of the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home.
