Rosalee "Rosie" Cameron

Rosalee “Rosie” Cameron passed away peacefully at her home in Summerfield, Kansas on June 12, 2017. Visitation was Friday, June 16, from noon to 8:00 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 17, at Mission Creek Cemetery, north of Summerfield. Pastor Janelle Knowles officiated. The pallbearers were Brad Borum, Jason Smith, Richard Cain, Mike Osterhaus, Dennis Richardson, and SSGT Andrew Richardson. The honorary pallbearers were Terri Gee, Dale Jurgens, Gary Warders, Wayne Norris, Scott Frerking, Galen Walters, and David A. Cameron. Rosie was born in Richland Center Township on July 13, 1929 to Walter and Clara Larmore. She attended the Ninety-Nine School and graduated from Summerfield High School in 1947. While in high school, she played basketball and softball . Rosie married James M. “Mick” Cameron on June 29, 1947 in Seneca, Kansas. They farmed in Burchard, Nebraska for a short time before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska. Rosie worked for Smith Dorsey Pharmaceuticals and Russell Stover candy while living in Lincoln. Mick and Rosie moved to Summerfield in 1952 to raise their family. Rosie worked in the Summerfield School cafeteria for many years then worked for Chicago Rawhide Industries (SKF Sealing Solutions) in Seneca before retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Summerfield Chapter 412, Order of the Eastern Star, where she held many offices including Worthy Matron in 1983 and 1984. Rosie was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 362 in Summerfield. She played softball for the Summerfield Women’s teams for 50 years, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, making jewelry, gardening, fishing, old westerns shows, being outside, spending time with her grandchildren, and tooling around town on her John Deer Gator. Rosie is survived by daughters Patricia J. Richardson (Dennis) of Marysville; Marilyn M. Cain (Rich) of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama; and Beverly A. Norris (Wayne), Elk Creek, Nebraska; grandchildren Shannon L. Borum (Bradford) of Griffin, Georgia; Jessica A. Cain, Huntersville, North Carolina; Staff Sergeant Andrew “Andy” Richardson, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri; Kathryn R. Dauphinais (Matthew), Wichita, Kansas; Krista D. Cameron, Halstead, Kansas; Eliza J. Cameron, Marysville; great grandson, Isaac Olivera, Marysville; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Mick; her parents Walter and Clara Larmore; brothers John, Olynn, Zerah “Zeke”, and Leo “Ben”; and sisters Irene Warders and Ida May Powers. A memorial fund has been established to the Summerfield Volunteer Fire Department, Meadowlark Hospice or to the Mission Creek Cemetery.
