Alvin F. Sedlacek, 93, of Marysville, Kan., passed away on December 4, 2017 at Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Seneca, Kan. Visitation will be Friday, December 8, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 9 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Father Nathan Haverland will officiate. Rosemary Forst will play the organ while the choir sings “Be Not Afraid”, “Amazing Grace”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, and “On Eagles Wings”. The pallbearers will be John Peeks, Jason Harris, Dan Sedlacek, Andy Sedlacek, Jameson Sedlacek, Derek Swanson, Michael Zimmerling, and Adam Kuckelman. Burial will be in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery. Alvin was born on August 19, 1924 to John A. and Rose M. (Fruh) Sedlacek of rural Hanover, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1943 until March 1946 at Camp Kilmer, NJ, in the Military Police Detachment. He was a member of St. Gregory's Church for most of his adult life and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose for many years. He and his wife served faithfully together delivering Meals on Wheels for over 10 years. Before retiring and moving to Marysville, he farmed west of Marysville and was also employed at the Herkimer Co-op for several years. In his retirement years he loved gardening and woodworking was a favorite hobby and pastime. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 72 years, Delores Kracht Sedlacek; sister, Mildred Brown. Surviving him are his six children, Judy Kuckelman, Seneca, Kan., David Sedlacek, Marysville, Kan., Yvonne (Aubrey) Potter, Kansas City, Mo., John (Tami) Sedlacek, Marysville, Sharon (Kendall) Peeks, Marysville, and Lisa (Dave) Swanson, Hiawatha, Kan.; six siblings, Loretta Henshaw, Overland Park, Kan., Josephine Brown, Dallas Tex., Dolores Clark, Lewiston, Idaho, Shirley Koehler, Hanover, Kan., Louis Sedlacek, Seneca, Kan., and twin brother, Melvin Sedlacek, Marysville; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
