Alice C. Schmitz, 98, of Marysville, Kan., died March 4, 2018 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville.Visitation will be Friday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary.A rosary service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 10 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville.A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 10 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church.  Father Nathan Haverland will officiate.The pallbearers will be her grandchildren:  Buster Schmitz, Josh Schmitz, Jason Martin, Kirk Martin, Quinn Martin, Troy Zimmerling, Terry Zimmerling, Bryan Rickert, Todd Rickert, Shane Rickert, Shawn Rickert, Jacob Schmitz, Jeff Schmitz, Mike Schmitz, Andy Schmitz and Phillip Schmitz.Burial will be in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery.Alice was born December 24, 1919 near Marysville, daughter of John Bernard “Barny” and Mary Sophia (Bornhorst) Kathe.  She attended St. Gregory’s Catholic School and was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.On October 25, 1939, she married Dominic “Heavy” Schmitz.  To this union nine children were born.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dominic “Heavy” on November 10, 1995; sons, Gilbert and Harold Schmitz; daughter-in-law, Sue Schmitz; son-in-law, Ken Martin; and siblings, William Kathe, Helen Kathe, Herman Kathe, August Kathe, Francis Kathe, Elizabeth Kathe, Jack Kathe, Marie Lewis, Louise Sheair, Margaret Osterhaus, Anne Brychta and Kathleen Bruna.Survivors include her children, Arleta Martin, Marysville, Victoria (Pudge) Rickert, Hastings, Neb., Butch (Linda) Schmitz, Marysville, Mary (PeeWee) Zimmerling, Home, Kan., Nick (Linda) Schmitz, Beattie, Kan., Greg Schmitz, Hanover, Kan., and Mickey (Phyllis) Schmitz, Marysville; daughter-in-law, Sandy Schmitz, Marysville; 23 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, 33 great-great grandchildren, 9 step great-great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-great grandchildren.A memorial fund has been established to St. Gregory's Catholic School.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
