Barbara L. Buck, 89, of Marysville, KS, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville.
To honor Barbara's life, a Celebration of Life service was held at Kinsley Mortuary on February 15, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Following the service, friends and family were invited to remain for the visitation event with the family from 6-9 p.m. at the same location.
Private burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery.
Barbara was born on August 17, 1934, in Norfolk, NE, to Lauren and Esther (Bockelman) Henning. When Barb was young, the family moved to North Platte, NE. In 1952, she graduated from North Platte High School and then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. Barbara led an incredibly fulfilling life and leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and devotion. She was known for her fiery personality and her unwavering commitment to those she cherished. Barbara's warm heart and nurturing soul made her a loving wife and mother.
On August 17, 1954, she was united in marriage to William D. Buck at Phoenix, AZ. They lived in Nebraska and Phoenix while Bill was attending school. In 1976, they moved to Marysville.
As a wonderful homemaker, Barbara took pride in creating a comfortable and inviting home for her family. She co-owned and operated The Huddle restaurant in Marysville alongside her husband for an impressive 24 years. Beyond homemaking and running a restaurant, Barbara found immense joy in various hobbies and interests. She had a passion for conversation and could captivate anyone with her engaging stories. Barbara's love for her children ran deep as she dedicated much of her time to their growth and happiness. Additionally, she had an affinity for her four-legged companion who brightened her days with unconditional love.
One of Barbara's proudest accomplishments was watching her children excel in sports throughout their lives. She was their biggest cheerleader on the sidelines, offering unwavering support no matter the outcome. Furthermore, she served as the secretary of the Special Olympics organization where she played a vital role in ensuring that individuals with intellectual disabilities found joy and fulfillment through sports. Barbara's involvement with the Special Olympics was a testament to her selflessness and compassion.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her surviving family, including her beloved husband of 69 years, William "Bill" D. Buck, Sr. , and three sons, Dr. William "Bill" D. Buck, Jr., and wife Susan of Salina, KS; Steve Buck of Beattie, KS; and Ron Buck and wife Germaine of Fairway, KS; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Genene Gerhardt.
A memorial fund has been designated to Twin Valley Developmental Services in Beattie and Greenleaf. Contributions may be sent in the care of Kinsley Mortuary.
