Betty Lou Hover

Betty Lou Hover, 97, of Marysville, KS, died January 18, 2024, at Community Memorial Healthcare.

A visitation was held Thursday, January 25, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary.  The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral was held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 26, at Kinsley Mortuary.  Rev. Adam Borgmann officiated.

The pallbearers were Jeremy Nester, Jeff Nester, Jon Nester, Tyler Ungerer, Josh Argo and Arnie Spoo.

Burial followed in the Marysville City Cemetery.

Betty was born on November 16, 1926, to Fred and Irene (Strickler) Hall at the family farm northwest of Marysville.  At the age of 4, they moved to a two-block area on the west side of Marysville where she resided for the remainder of her life.  She attended Lincoln Elementary School from Kindergarten to the 7th grade, Central Elementary for her 8th grade year and graduated from Marysville High School in 1944.

After high school, Betty began working as a secretary at Armour Packing Co.  When it closed, she worked in the county attorney’s office until she resigned in 1951 in order to raise a family and help her husband, Delane’s refrigeration business.  Delane and Betty were the parents of two daughters, Linda and Kay.  They later divorced in 1961.

In 1960, Betty began working for attorney Bob Ferguson in Marysville, until he passed away in 1970.   After that, she worked as secretary to the superintendent of USD 364 for 23 years.  While there, she also served as clerk  of the school board for 14 years.

After retirement, Betty’s passion was piecing and hand quilting many quilts for family and to be given away.

She was a member of First Christian Church since 1941 and served as treasurer of the church for 38 ½ years.

Preceding her in death is her parents.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda (Steve) Argo, Vermillion, KS, and Kay (Dale) Nester, Marysville; grandchildren, Jeremy (Cari) Nester, Jeff (Dani) Nester, Jon (Becky) Nester, Josh (Paige) Argo, Sara (Arnie) Spoo, Teresa (Mitch) Hanlon and Rebekah (Brian) McLaughlin; great-grandchildren, Avery, Brody, Shae, Tyler, Carter, Charlie, Cam, Kenzi, Reece, Scotlynn, Kaitlyn, Joey and Luke.

A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
