Chad E. Rhodes, 61, of Marysville, KS, passed away January 2, 2023, at Bryan East in Lincoln, NE. The family received friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Catholic Church. Father Quentin Schmitz and Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. The pallbearers were Jimmy Keller, Tony Joyce, Todd Rhodes, Bob Connell, James “Albert” Esslinger, Tom Lehechka and Dean Luckeroth. The honorary pallbearers were his ten children, Megan Hill, Melissa Rhodes, Dustin Gordon Rhodes, Dylan Faire, Libbie Vogelsberg, Skylar Rhodes, Caleb Vogelsberg, Derek Rhodes, Bradley Rhodes, and Brandee Rhodes. Private burial will be St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Chad was born on September 2, 1961, in Marysville, son of Gordon E. and Marilee (Throm) Rhodes. In 1980, he graduated from Marysville High School. At the age of 14, Chad began working for Bruce’s Body Shop where he enjoyed working his entire life. He did all aspects of the auto body business and also drove the wrecker. He worked as an EMT for the Marysville Ambulance Service for many years. In the summertime he took pride in mowing lawns for his many customers. In the wintertime, he would get up early and work his way from the top of Main Street to the bottom and around town, pushing snow from driveways and sidewalks for anyone that needed it. Chad really enjoyed helping people and was a friend to everyone. His hobbies were working, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family and many pets over the years. Chad, along with his wife, Sue, raised ten children and provided a loving home for more than 70 foster children. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Rhodes in 1976; sister, Marcia Prell in 2007; and stepfather, Claude Adams in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Sue; and 10 children; his mother, Marilee Adams, Marysville; two brothers, Jay Rhodes, Topeka, and Todd Rhodes, Haysville; and sister, Maureen Johnson, Topeka. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
