DeLora S. Drinkgern

September 5, 1918 — June 27, 2020

DeLora S. Drinkgern, 101, Bremen, KS, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 27, 2020 in Washington, KS. Visitation is Wednesday, July 1 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 2 at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Hermansberg) north of Bremen. Rev. Aaron Fenker will officiate and Bev Crome will play the organ. The congregation will sing "Jerusalem the Golden", "The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want", "He's Risen, He's Risen, and "Abide with Me." The pallbearers are Kaleb Drinkgern, Brian Kruse, Jerod Kruse, Ron Holle, Robert Gleue, and Scott Drinkgern. Burial will be in the church cemetery. DeLora was born near Bremen on September 5, 1918 during the Spanish flu pandemic, to Friedrich and Emma (Crome) Lauterbach. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church on September 15, 1918 and was confirmed in the same church on March 20, 1932. During her confirmation instruction she would ride her horse. DeLora attended the South School outside of Bremen. DeLora was hired as a maid in Kansas City, KS and then later worked at the hospital in Marysville. On May 22, 1939 she was united in marriage to Henry Drinkgern. They moved to the farm near Bremen and lived there for the rest of their lives. DeLora was both a housewife and a farmwife. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and going to her son Warren's football and basketball games. She also enjoyed going to her grandson Kaleb's football and basketball games. Later she would attend Kaleb's football games at Kansas State University. She witnessed Kaleb and Amanda's wedding, attended her great granddaughter Emilia's baptism, and celebrated her 100th birthday. In August 2019 she made her home at the Centennial Homestead in Washington until she was called to her heavenly home during another pandemic. DeLora was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church (Hermansberg), belonged to the Ladies Aid and Mission Guild, and was also a member of the Home Demonstration Unit. Survivors include her son, Warren (Mary Lee) Drinkgern, Bremen; grandson Kaleb (Amanda) Drinkgern, Lees Summit, MO; great granddaughter, Emilia Grace Drinkgern; niece, Karen Finkel, Virginia; nephew, Bob (Kate) Evans, Connecticut; two sister-in-laws and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry in 1996; two sisters, Geneva Evans and Phyllis Lauterbach; and three brothers, Lloyd, Hugo, and Friedrich Lauterbach. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
