Donald E. Wienck, 87, of Hanover, KS, died September 4, 2021 at the Hanover Hospital. Visitation will be Thursday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. Masks are required. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church, northeast of Hanover. Masks are required. Rev. Rodney Fritz will officiate. Arlyce Klipp will play the organ while the congregation sings “It Is Well with My Soul”, “On Eagles’ Wings”, “Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”. The pallbearers will be Jason Gormley, Scott Wieters, Mark Cross, John Wienck, Carlos Cross and Todd Wienck. The honorary pallbearer will be Chris Gormley Burial is in the church cemetery. Donald was born January 1, 1934, at Greenleaf, KS, to Fred and Olga (Stigge) Wienck. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, south of Barnes, KS. On April 18, 1954, he married Lorna Meyer at Trinity Lutheran Church near Hanover. To this union three children were born, Janet, Diane, and Gary. After marriage he farmed and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956. Don was stationed in Colorado and served a tour of duty in Germany. He then moved to Marysville and worked for Meyer Chevrolet as a mechanic. In 1959, he started employment with the Hanover Implement which is now Bruna Implement. He worked there for 45 years as a mechanic and painted farm machinery. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was also a 55 year member of Legion Post #306, served on the Hanover City Council, and was on the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and tractors, many of which won trophies at shows. He loved car shows, racing, and trips to Branson. Don and Lorna celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on April 18, 2021. Don enjoyed spending time with his family as well as children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin and Howard; sister, Vivian Vickerman; sister-in-law, Arloyn Malstrom; grandchildren, Eric and Jenifer Wieters; mother-in-law, Bertha Meyer; father-in-law, Ernst Meyer; brothers-in-law, Robert and Donald Meyer; sister-in-law, Ernetta Kauffeld; and nephew, Kevin Kauffeld. Survivors include his wife, Lorna, Hanover; children, Janet (Randy) Wieters, Emporia, KS, Diane (Bill) Lux, Beatrice, NE, and Gary (Beth) Wienck, Marysville, KS; brother, Ivan (Irene) Wienck; sister-in-law, Frances Wienck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Rosella Brei, Shirley and Jerry McLaughlin, Omar and Ione Kauffeld; grandchildren, Scott Wieters, Kelly and Mark Cross, Jason and Melissa Gormley, Chris and Ashley Gormley, Jennie and Ric Mandigo, Nate and Amber Johnson; great grandchildren, Carlos, Cohen and Casen Cross, Tamryn, Olivia and Emerly Gormley, Owen and Maya Gormley, Lexus and Syrus Root, Cash, and Mark Johnson, Seth Mandigo; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
