Dorothy Mae Cook, 90, of Oketo, KS, passed away September 7, 2021 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation will be Sunday, September 12, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 13 at United Methodist Church in Marysville. Burial will be at Oketo Cemetery following ceremony. Dorothy was born to Clyde and Ruby (Goins) Pike on November 23, 1930. In 1948, she graduated from Barneston High School. She was united in marriage to George Cook during a double ceremony with George’s sister Goldie to Harold Kooser on Febuary 19, 1950 in Seneca. Dorothy worked as a housekeeper at the Surf Motel in Marysville with her best friend Norma Prebyl for many years. She loved decorating for all holidays, especially Christmas and Easter, and enjoyed being around friends and family. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. Most of her day was spent feeding and watching birds out the window from her kitchen table along with doing word search games. You could always depend on a card in the mail for special occasions from Dorothy. She enjoyed making trips to town to eat lunch with another best friend, Lois Novotny. Dorothy was a member of the Oketo Methodist Church, Methodist Women’s Auxiliary, Moose Lodge Member, Royal Neighbors of America, Barneston Legion Auxiliary, and the Red Hats of Wymore. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, George (2004); brothers, Ron and Melvin Pike; sister, Betty Savage; brother in-laws, John Keedy and Frank Tarvin. She leaves behind to remember her always, her daughter Linda Holsan, Wymore, NE ; son, Darrell (Eva) Cook, Oketo; son, John (Gloria) Cook, Oketo; daughter, Kim (O.C.) McMurrary, Barneston, NE; daughter; Bridi Kallenbach, Wamego; sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Wiese, Ft. Collins, CO, Sharon Keedy, Wymore, NE; brothers, Robert Pike and Jerry Nichols, Cheyenne, WY, Mike (Kay) Pike, Wymore, NE; grandchildren, Shawn (Samantha) Cook, Tom Cook, Heather (Tim) Winkels, Lacey (Nick) Jurgens, Candace (Jessie) Glasgow, Eric Cook, Neoma (Jordan) Nuffer, Tylar (Brandon) Buss, Clark McMurrary, Chase (Samantha) Kallenbach, Andrea McMurray, Shaleena and Jacklyn Cook; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Emmett Jurgens, Jensi Nuffer, Brynlee Winkels, Bostyn Buss, and Jorey Nuffer. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
