Dorothy L. Hula, 89, of Marysville, KS, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 in Albuquerque, NM. A private graveside service will be held Friday, March 27 at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Blue Rapids. Dorothy was born in Blue Rapids, KS on September 7, 1930 to Oscar and Maude Harris. She graduated in 1949 from Blue Rapids High School. She worked at Stanley Grocery Store in Blue Rapids and at Marysville Mutual Insurance Co. Later she served 18 years as Marshall County Treasurer. In November 1951, Dorothy married Robert “Bob” Gallup at the Blue Rapids Methodist Church. They had three sons: Rod, George, and Don. Dorothy and Bob were married until Bob's death in 1967. In 1976, Dorothy married William “Bill” Hula at the United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids; they were married until Bill's death in 2009. Dorothy was a dedicated mother to her three boys; she never missed a ball game or school concert, and she filled the role of both mother and father after Bob died. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and caring for her home and family. Dorothy was an active volunteer throughout the years in her community. She was President of the Kansas State County Treasurers Association, was a member of the 20th Century Club, and sat on the boards of the Blue Valley Nursing Home, the Blue Valley Senior Living Center, and the Blue Rapids Public Library. She was very proud of her life membership in Eastern Star and served as the Worthy Matron in the Blue Rapids Elnora Chapter. Dorothy was a 68-year member of the United Presbyterian Church and served as a trustee. Dorothy was preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents, and her two brothers, Don Harris and Dale Harris. She is survived by her sister, Marge Hogue, of Topeka, Kansas, her three children, Rodney A. Gallup of Englewood, CO, George A. Gallup of Lafayette, LA, and Donald R. Gallup (Lisa) of Albuquerque, NM. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Robert Gallup of Albuquerque, NM, Sami Penner (Jimmy) of Albuquerque, NM, Peyton Gallup (Madison) of Covington, LA, Ryan Gallup (Kristan) of Ponchatoula, LA, Roxanne Petikas of Baton Rouge, LA, seven great-grandchildren, and a myriad of much-loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids, KS or to the Blue Rapids Historical Society.
