Dorothy M. Peschel, 87, of Marysville, KS, died November 30, 2025, at The Lighthouse in Marysville.
Visitation was held Friday, December 5, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service followed at 7 p.m. at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville.
A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 6, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, with Father Quentin Schmitz and Father Jim Shaughnessy officiating. Musicians were Rosemary Forst, Cindy Voet, and Paula Landoll-Smith. Music selections included “Mother Mary, Pray for Us,” “In This Place,” “Beyond the Moon and Stars,” “Lord, Who at Thy First Eucharist,” and “May the Angels Lead You Home.”
The altar servers were Ellen Peschel and Lucille Peschel. Readers were Maggie Barlow and Patty Peschel. Gift bearers were Jacob Peschel, Landon Koch, and Gianna Quest.
The pallbearers were her grandchildren: Alex Koch, Jenna Quest, Liz Warren, Allison Lubbers, Jackson Peschel and Jacob Peschel, and nephews, Jeff Keating and Mike Peschel.
Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery.
Dorothy was born February 4, 1938, at Seneca, Kansas, daughter of Francis and Leona (Kramer) Stallbaumer. She attended school in Kelly and was a 1956 graduate from Kelly High School. She received her nursing degree from The Sisters of Charity School of Nursing at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas in 1961.
On October 14, 1961, she married Eugene “Gene” Peschel at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. This union was blessed with three children: Teresa, Kate, and Dan.
Dorothy began her nursing career in 1961 at Community Memorial Hospital in Marysville as a registered nurse. She retired in June 2002 after 41 years of dedicated service.
She filled her time with sewing, mending, quilting, embroidery, crocheting and any other little project that would come her way. She kept up with the family history and was active in the community by volunteering at St. Gregory’s, a member of the Red Hat Ladies and Club 30. Gene and Dorothy enjoyed many games of pinochle with friends. After retiring, she enjoyed getting together with her former co-workers. Dorothy cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and following their activities.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Leona Stallbaumer; in-laws, Emmett and Gertrude Peschel; and her sister, Sr. Francine Stallbaumer, OSB.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene “Gene” Peschel; her children, Teresa Koch (Gary) of Odell, Nebraska, Kate Manley (Denny Smith) of Marysville, and Dan Peschel (Cindy) of Manhattan, Kansas; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren, Alex (Makayla) Koch of Odell, NE and their children, Landon, Lawson, Layton and Lettie; Jenna (Andrew) Quest of Nevada, MO and their children Gianna, Elijah, Bella, Henry and Lucy; Liz (Tyler) Warren of Marysville and Mae; Allison (Sam) Lubbers of Wichita, KS and Ford; Jackson and Jacob Peschel of Manhattan; siblings David Stallbaumer of Arvada, CO; Louis (Valerie) Stallbaumer of Tracy, CA and Jane (Mick) Keating of Marysville.
A memorial fund has been established to St. Gregory's Catholic School in Marysville, KS. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
