Douglas R. Springer, 63, of Hanover, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021, at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, KS. Visitation will be Thursday, November 11, from noon to 8 p.m. at Hanover Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 12, 2021 at Hanover Mortuary. Rev. David Manyara will officiate. Music to be played includes “Go Rest High on That Mountain”, “How Great Thou Art” and “That’s My Job”. Pallbearers are Jay Holle, Larry Lohse, Richard Inman, Jacob Friedrichs, Michael Shirk, Brady Shirk and Ted Meyer. Honorary Pallbearers are Cohen Springer and Bentley Springer. Burial will be in the Hanover City Cemetery. Doug was born October 27, 1958, in Manhattan, KS to Robert and Judy (Burgman) Springer. He graduated from Hanover High School. Doug was employed as a butcher and meat department manager, working most recently at Hometown Foods in Blue Rapids. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Barnes. Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. After his father passed away, he also took up gardening. His favorite pastime of all was spending time with his grandchildren, Cohen and Bentley. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Robert. Survivors include his son, Justin Springer, Greenleaf, KS; mother, Judy Springer, Hanover; sisters, Susan (Maurice) Friedrichs, Marysville, KS, Nancy Springer, Salina, KS; grandsons, Cohen and Bentley Springer, Greenleaf; and nephews, Jacob Friedrichs, Mike Shirk and Brady Shirk. Memorials are designated to an education fund for Cohen and Bentley. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary.
