Edgar "Ed" D. Rettig, 86, of Hanover, KS, died Monday morning, May 24, 2021, at Hanover Long Term Care in Hanover. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Kloppenberg Center in Hanover, the family will receive friends an hour before the service. Ed was born on August 6, 1934, on a farm near Hanover to Edgar Johan and Bertha E. (Lippka) Rettig, their only child. In 1952, he graduated from Hanover High School and entered the U.S. Army for 4 years. In 1956, he was honorably discharged. In 1961, he married Karen R. Parry at the Baptist Church in Marysville. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. He was a Union Pacific Railroad Locomotive Engineer for 47 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover, U.T.U. Railroad Union, NARVE, and the Hanover American Legion. Ed enjoyed golfing, playing town team basketball, watching KU basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. He loved music and used to go to concerts with Karen as often as they could. He also loved following his kids and grandkids school and sporting events. Survivors include his wife, Karen R. Rettig; two daughters, Julie (Scott) Jueneman, Hanover, and Ellen (Steven) Yarber, St. Peters, MO; two sons, Kent (Rhonda) Rettig, Olathe, KS, and Kurt (friend Lisa Wiles) Rettig, Overland Park, KS; nine grandchildren, Jordan (Bill) Griffith, Lindsey (Jay) Frerking, Trevor Jueneman and fiancé, Shelby Queal, Devin Jueneman, Chris Yarber, Katie (Josh) Anderson, Ryan (Emily) Yarber, Sammi Rettig and Sydney Rettig; seven great-grandchildren; one great grandchild on the way; brother-in-law, John (Vicki) Parry; sister-in-law, Ronda Parry; and 3 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Linn Parry. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary.
