Edna Mae Hynek, 93, of Hanover, KS, died August 9, 2024 at Country Living in Marysville.
Visitation was on Monday, August 12, from 1-5 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary.
A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Hanover.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, at St. John's Catholic Church. Father David Metz and Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. The organist was Janet Fritschi and the soloist is Kelsey Goodwin. Music included "How Great Thou Art", "Be Not Afraid", "Jerusalem My Destiny", "Ave Maria", "Gentle Woman", "Song of Farewell" and "Go in Peace."
The pallbearers were Blake Hynek, Dacey Hagedorn, Austin Hynek, Chase Blaha, Cain Blaha and Tyren Foust.
The honorary pallbearers were Langdon Moore and Bear Hynek.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Edna was born on November 11, 1930, near Hanover, KS, to Eugene and Helen (Smetana) Helmlinger. She attended school at Prairie Hill, a one room schoolhouse in the country until the 8th grade and then remained home to help with the family farm.
On September 26, 1956, she was united in marriage to Duane Hynek at St. John's Catholic Church. From this marriage, they were blessed with 6 adopted children. Edna was a homemaker and her children were her pride and joy.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Altar Society, a group leader of office, served on the Parish Council, a 4-H leader for 8 years and was a long time Fair Superintendent.
Edna enjoyed gardening and always did lots of canning. She loved to attend her children's activities and later in life, her grandchildrens.
Preceding her in death is her husband, Duane on March 14, 2021; parents; brother, Edward Helmlinger; sister, Eileen Bramlage; and granddaughter, Jessie Foust.
Survivors include her children, Denise (Graham) Foust, Junction City, KS, David (Jill) Hynek, Manhattan, KS, Amy (Jody) Dalebout, Lake Wales, FL, Alan (Kathy) Hynek, St. George, KS, Lori (Mark) Hagedorn, Hanover, and Lee (Ariel) Hynek, Hanover; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established to Catholic Charity. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary, c/o Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
