On August 7, 1971, Elaine married Larry Pfeifer in Plainville, KS and next year would have been their 50th wedding anniversary. Through this marriage Larry and Elaine were blessed with a son (Bryan) and daughter (Alana). Elaine grew up in Kensington, KS, and graduated from Kensington High School as valedictorian in 1966. She attended Kansas Wesleyan University and graduated with her Bachelors in English and Language Arts in 1970. She then earned her Library Science degree from Fort Hays State in 1971. Following this, she took her first teaching position teaching English and Language Arts in Effingham, KS, and was there until 1978. She then became a stay at home mother to Bryan and Alana while also subbing at school until 1989 when she began working as a secretary for Marysville Jr-Sr High School. She retired as the high school secretary in 2015 with 25 years of experience and went back to work helping at the elementary office and cafeteria later in 2015. She left this job she loved to be a caregiver for her parents Elvyn and Doris in 2018. Elaine also took on many other jobs throughout the years by working at Boogarts, IGA, and Sandy’s Pantry. She was known by many people in the area through her work at the Astro 3 Theatre. She also was a holiday helper at the Garden of Eden and devoted many hours running the scoreboard for various junior high and high school events, and running the concession stand at the Lakeview Complex during the summer. She enjoyed many activities throughout the years such as helping her dear friend Denise Ryan with the Footloose Dance Studio recitals and helping or performing in M-ACT plays. Attending musicals and plays and shopping with her daughter Alana was some of her favorite things to do. She was a social butterfly and appreciated spending time with friends and getting together with many of them for various occasions. She also liked watching movies at the Astro 3 Theatre and Hallmark Channel movies were some of her favorites. She was an avid reader and appreciated having a book club with many friends in the community. She served in the Newcomers Club, welcoming new people who moved into the Marysville community. Dressing up, wearing jewelry, and doing her nails made her feel special. She frequently visited her parents in Kensington and liked playing various card and board games with them. She was a huge Elvis fan and music brought her great joy. Branson, Missouri was one of her favorite vacation spots and the family loved spending Christmas there together just last year. Elaine loved her children, Bryan Jon and Alana Michelle, very much and they were the light of her life. Being a basketball coaches’ wife and watching Bryan play sports was something she enjoyed greatly. She was also Alana’s biggest fan and loved watching her dance and perform. The last few years she has taken pleasure in attending and helping with Alana’s YMCA dance recitals in Lincoln. She loved visiting Alana and Jeremy in Lincoln and going to various events. Elaine also loved her son-in-law Jeremy and they became great friends from day one because of their work in education. Jeremy finished his administration degree this past summer and Elaine had a strong passion for putting her English expertise to work and helped to proofread his paper. She really enjoyed working at the school over the years because she loved working with kids and helping others was her passion. She is survived by her husband Larry of Marysville, son Bryan of Marysville, and daughter Alana (Jeremy) Fries of Lincoln, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents Elvyn and Doris Slavik. Elaine will be greatly missed in the Marysville community and will be remembered for being so positive, compassionate, and helpful to everyone she knew. She was always so caring and loving and knew many people in the Marysville community. Her smile always spread cheer and brought happiness to others. She will be remembered as an angel on earth. In lieu of flowers, two memorial funds have been established. One will be designated towards a scholarship fund for a Marysville High School student and M-ACT.
