Elizabeth "Liz" Ann O'Connell

Elizabeth "Liz" A. O'Connell, 90, of Marysville, KS, passed away peacefully at her home on January 16, 2024, surrounded by her partner, Dan, daughter, Carrie and husband, Andy, and sister, Lucia.

Friends and family were invited for a Celebration of Life at 12 noon on Friday, January 26, at the American Legion in Marysville.  Pastors Andrew Lucas and Greg Doll led the celebration.  Hannah Malotte played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang "Abide with Me" and "Smile."

Private family burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery.

Liz was born on August 2, 1933, in Marysville, to Van and Mary (Galehouse) Brodrick.  In 1951, she graduated from Marysville High School and then attended Kansas State University.

She lived in San Luis Obispo, CA, most of her life where she worked as an executive secretary.  Three years ago, she and her life partner, Dan Pecenka, moved back to Marysville.  Recently, Liz celebrated her 90th birthday with all of her close friends and loving family with a festive party at the Wagon Wheel.

Liz loved to play tennis, golf, bingo, read, and dine out with friends.  She enjoyed attending many events with Dan and her sister, Lucia.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and P.E.O. International.  It was her belief that “We are all God’s children.  Be kind to one another.  Find the good in everyone.”  Liz will be remembered as a faithful, loving individual who was a good listener with a quick wit and a kind, gentle soul.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her life partner, Dan Pecenka; son, Lynn (Jennifer) O’Connell, Muscle Shoals, AL; daughter, Carrie (Andy) Sims, San Luis Obispo, CA; sister, Lucia Brodrick Marysville, and five grand dogs.

A memorial fund has been established to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the American Legion Post #163.  Contributions may be sent in the care of Kinsley Mortuary.
