Estella "Stella" M. Bernasek

Estella "Stella" M. Bernasek, 91, of Beattie, KS, died November 4, 2020 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation will be Friday, November 6, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A private family funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7 at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The service will be shown on our Kinsley Mortuary Facebook page. Father Jim Shaughnessy will officiate. The musician will be Jane Sedlacek. The pallbearers will be Clint Wenzl, Zach Weeks, Izaya Wenzl, Daryl Wenzl, Cameron Wenzl and Mark Haverkamp. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Stella was born July 16, 1929 near Lillis, KS, daughter of Ray and Catherine (Skoch) Stallbaumer. She grew up near Axtell and graduated from Axtell High School in 1946. Stella attended Highland College and then taught for a few years in a one room schoolhouse near Beattie. On June 5, 1952, she married Walter Weeks, Jr., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell. To this union two children were born, Janice and Jim. Walter preceded her in death on February 6, 1981. On June 18, 1982, she married Gene Bernasek at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Beattie. Stella was a member of the Marshall County Election Board, St. Malachy’s quilting group and St. Malachy’s Guild. In Beattie she helped at Twin Valley, the restaurant, and with the Beattie Milo Festival Flea Market. She enjoyed quilting, flea markets, spending time with friends and family, and staying active with fancy work and crafts. Stella was a very loving wife and the light of Gene’s life! She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Walter; and brother, Larry Stallbaumer. Survivors include her husband, Gene; daughter, Janice (Lloyd) Wenzl, Vermillion, KS; son, Jim (Mary) Weeks, Beattie; brother, Norman (Sophie) Stallbaumer, Topeka; sister, Cathy Pierce, Topeka; five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to St. Malachy's Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
