Eugene “Gene” James Fischer, 79, of Frankfort, KS, died October 13, 2025, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Padden Funeral Chapel. A rosary service will follow at 7 p.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 20, at Annunciation Catholic Church. Father Anthony Chendumalli will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Gene was born a twin on October 15, 1945, at McGehee Hospital in Frankfort. Following the death of his father, Alfred, he and his siblings were raised by their guardian uncle, George Fischer, and his three aunts, Cecelia, Matilda “Tillie,” and Leona Fischer.
He attended Osborne Country School and graduated from Annunciation Catholic School. After graduation, he joined the family dairy operation, becoming a partner in Fischer Dairy, while also farming.
Gene was a member of the Washington-Marshall County Dairy Herd Improvement Association. In 1995, the dairy herd was dispersed due to health reasons. After the sale, he worked at Chicago Rawhide in Seneca, KS, until December 1997, when he suffered a heart attack. He later worked at T&C Converters and at Westside Restaurant for several years.
An avid gardener, Gene took pride in growing bountiful produce that he enjoyed sharing with friends and neighbors. He also loved to fish.
He was a lifelong member of Annunciation Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his father; guardian uncle, George Fischer; and aunts, Cecelia, Matilda “Tillie,” and Leona Fischer.
Survivors include his siblings, twin sister Mary Jane Fischer, Betty Fischer, and Edward Fischer.
