In Loving Memory of Fred Cohorst
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Fred Cohorst, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who passed away on July 23, 2025, at the age of 78.
A time to visit and tell stories and share memories, will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, at the Marysville American Legion. A private burial will take place at St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery.
Fred was born on July 4, 1947, in Marysville, Kansas, to Francis Raymond and Lucille (Williams) Cohorst. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1965 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to Marysville, where he spent the rest of his life.
Fred was a hardworking man who spent many years as a truck driver for Landoll Corporation, Hall Brothers, and Studer Truck Line. During that time, he also owned and operated Fredrick’s of Marysville, a bar known for its lively atmosphere and Fred’s unmistakable wit. Later in life, he served as the Recycling Coordinator for Marshall County until his retirement.
He was a regular at the American Legion, where he enjoyed socializing and swapping stories with friends. Fred was known for his sharp sense of humor, love for good conversation, and quiet strength. Whether offering wisdom to his daughters, laughter to his grandchildren, or sarcastic one-liners to friends, Fred’s presence left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
He will be remembered for his devotion to family, gift for storytelling, and the strong values he lived by. Though he is gone, his spirit, humor, and love will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Margo Cohorst and Erika (Ronald) Houston, both of Marysville; his brother, Jim (Lois) Cohorst of Marysville; his sister, Sharon Zepp of Topeka; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren: Zach (Ciara) Cohorst and their children, Eurija and Memphis; Honesty (Kahm) Flanary and their children, Walker and Evelyn; Emmy Landis and her child, Cashtyn Quinn; Treyton Cohorst; Destynie Houston and her children, Marianna and Mercedes; and Austein Houston.
