Genevieve H. Blaske

Marysville, Kansas

Genevieve H. Blaske, 91, of Marysville, KS, passed away March 15, 2024 at Community Memorial Healthcare.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, at Marysville City Cemetery.  Rev. Jeremy Henderson officiated.  Music included “Over the Rainbow” and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”.

The pallbearers were Roger Gilbertson, Cale Gilbertson, Chris Gilbertson and Ted Blaske.

Honorary pallbearers were Cody Frerichs, Jordan Frerichs and Duane LeRoy Blaske.

Burial followed.

Genevieve was born on December 5, 1932, to John and Mary (Miller) Sullivan at Lincoln, NE.  She graduated from Hallam High School in 1950.   On September 13, 1953 Genevieve married Lyman Blaske at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church.  This union was blessed with two sons and a daughter.

Genevieve worked at Russell Stover in Lincoln, NE and in the dietary department at Community Memorial Hospital in Marysville.  She enjoyed her work at the hospital and if anyone she worked with had trouble remembering something they were told to, “go ask Genny.”  Volunteering to cook at the Helvering Center was also a favorite thing of hers to do.

Every Thursday, Genevieve visited the beauty shop.  She liked to go so she could visit with people and be social.  She was also a regular at Hardee’s restaurant.  Genevieve enjoyed her cats and spending time with her dog Oly.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Wayne) Jeanneret, Manhattan, KS; daughter-in-law, Martha Blaske, Topeka KS; grandchildren, Roger (Jill) Gilbertson, Summerfield, KS, Chris (Heidi) Gilbertson, Seward, NE, Tiffany (Jeremy) Natho, Deshler, NE, Melinda (Luke) Orlando, Lawton, OK, Darlene (Billy) Tomlin, Topeka, KS, Duane LeRoy (Jenny) Blaske, Cortland, NY, Teddy (Martina) Blaske, Omaha, NE;  16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. 

Preceding her in death is her husband, Lyman in 1973; sons, Gary and Duane Blaske; and brothers, Vincent and Lawrence.  

A memorial fund has been established to Marshall County Agency on Aging.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
