Gerald was born May 19, 1944, in Marysville, Kansas, to Arthur and Elizabeth (Hurla) Seematter. He grew up on a farm near Home, Kansas, and graduated from Marysville High School in 1962. He met his bride, Sharon Leupold, in Frankfort, Kansas, in 1964, and they were married a year later on October 16, 1965, at the Blaine Catholic Church.
Gerald served as a mechanic in the National Guard during the Vietnam War, stationed in Colorado. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years, but he was always a farmer at heart. He “railroaded” to support his farming habit.
Gerald enjoyed celebrating the summer holidays at his pond with family and friends. He will be remembered for his smile, love of family, and his habit of giving out Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to all the little ones. He will be missed and remembered by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Wesley and Esther Leupold; his son, Joseph Seematter; his sister, Mary Armstrong; along with many other loved ones and close friends.
Survivors include his wife of over 52 years, Sharon; daughter, Julie (Robert) Sedlemeyer; sons, Daniel Seematter and David (Hillary) Seematter; brothers, Paul Seematter and James Seematter; sisters, Alice Wagner, Teresa Bussman, Anna Wilder, Lois Schreiner, and Bernice Jasko; and grandchildren, Jessica, Brittany, Ava, Keene, and Claire.
