Harry Paul Jones, 81, of Leavenworth, KS passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. Harry was born in Marysville, KS on July 11,1944, attended Barrett School, Frankfort High School and Blue Valley High School, where he played football and was named most likely to succeed. He received a degree in Engineering and Physics from the University of Kansas in 1968.

After graduation, Harry joined the National Guard and moved to Davenport, IA to work at the Rock Island Arsenal while completing his master’s degree from the University of Iowa. He then moved across the country to the China Lake Naval Weapons Center in California, working on missile technology before settling in Leavenworth, KS where his career with the Department of Defense would last more than 40 years. In that time, Harry was proud to have created the MODSIM computer language that ran models for various defense wargaming and training exercises. After retiring from the Department of Defense, he continued his programming legacy working for private entities until 2017.

Harry was known for his incredible intelligence, sense of humor, love for the University of Kansas Jayhawks, and having a passion for tennis. On any given weekend or evening, he could be found on the tennis court with friends from the Leavenworth area. He channeled his competitive spirit into the sport he loved. He also found great joy spending time with family, especially during outings to the park or dining at their favorite restaurants.

After his father’s passing, Harry began farming and brought his trademark eagerness for embracing challenges to this endeavor. He focused his love of the outdoors into activities such as motorcycling, skiing, tennis, farming and traveling. Harry’s family will remember him as exceptionally kind-hearted, generous, sharp-witted and loving.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ann Whitlow Jones, children Danielle Jones, Audra Jones (Dave Easley), John Jones and Andrew (Heather) Jones; four grandchildren: Vaughn, Anthony, Elizabeth and Felicity; brother Keith (Sue) Jones and sister Allene (Bill) Hanis. He was preceded in death by his parents Fern Faye Jones and William Paul Jones, and his brother Bill Jones.

Harry will be loved and remembered always in our hearts. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 17 at the Barrett Cemetery southwest of Frankfort.
