Irene Marie Kurtz

Irene M. Kurtz, age 97, of Blaine, Kansas, passed away on May 17, 2025, at the Onaga Health and Rehab in Onaga, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, also at Padden Funeral Chapel. Pastor Adam Borgman will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Frankfort Cemetery.

Irene was born on April 27, 1928, in Blaine, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Sarah (Earlywine) Jeffries. She grew up near Joseph C. Kurtz, and the two were married on December 30, 1965, in Marysville, Kansas. Together, they made their home northwest of Blaine.

Irene worked as a CNA at the Frankfort Care Home and also spent time working at the local dry cleaners. She found great joy in gardening, crocheting, caring for her farmyard animals, and spending time with young children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1997; her parents; and her siblings: Ronald Jeffries, Duane Jeffries, Vernon “Dutch” Jeffries, and Marjorie Kurtz.

She is survived by her sister, Pat Adams of Frankfort; and many nieces and nephews, including Jim, who lovingly cared for her at home until moving to Onaga Health and Rehab.
