James “Jimmy” Messick, 58, of Marysville, KS, died January 2, 2024, after a battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., March 30th, at Prospect Hill Cemetery near Blue Rapids, KS.
Jimmy was born on December 30, 1965, to David and Martha (Holgun) Messick. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1985. On January 1, 1990, he was united in marriage to Tamra Adrian. Together they had three children and later divorced.
Throughout his life, Jimmy had many different jobs, working all over town helping people and friends. He worked for Precision Truss and Lumber until a tornado forced its closing, and after that he helped Mark Wassenberg at Elm Creek Electric.
Collecting old Coke bottles, coins and baseball cards was a favorite of Jimmy’s. He loved to garden, growing things such as tomatoes, peppers and sunflowers. Jimmy’s children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed watching football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jimmy spent a lot of time with his grandchildren, whether it was visiting them in Florida for holidays and birthdays, or them coming to Marysville. They would spend their time finding black squirrels, going to the pool and watching movies.
Preceding him in death is his parents and brother, Don.
Survivors include his children, Stephanie Messick-Hardwood, Williston, FL, Zachary Messick, Newberry, FL, Alexander Messick, Newport News, VA; six grandchildren; and siblings, Donna Messick-Cabello, Eva Gonzalez, Paula Bradford and Lee Roy Messick.
