A graveside service was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 16, at St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery in Marysville.
Jane was born on May 13, 1948, in Marysville, Kansas, to Clarence and Jeanette (Hardman) Wassenberg. She attended St. Gregory's Catholic School and graduated from Marysville High School in 1966.
Jane was first married to Larry Harper, and they later divorced. On November 23, 1978, she was united in marriage to Ivan Sedlacek at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie. Together they made their home in the Frankfort area, where they farmed for many years.
Throughout her life, Jane worked in a variety of professions, but her greatest passion was sharing her gift of music. An accomplished musician, she gave countless piano and guitar lessons to students throughout the area. For decades, she traveled to parishes throughout Northeast Kansas, where she played the organ and piano and sang for weddings, funerals, and weekly Masses. She was also a member of a regional choir that performed at churches throughout the area.
Jane loved shopping for Christmas and took great pleasure in finding special gifts for those she loved. She also enjoyed taking road trips with Ivan. Above all, she was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, who were the greatest joy in her life.
Preceding her in death is her husband, Ivan, in 2021; parents, Clarence and Jeanette Wassenberg; grandparents, Frank and Agnes Nettie (McMahon) Hardman, and John and Lena (Smidt) Wassenberg.
Survivors include children, Chris (Melody) Harper, Owasso, OK, Amy Harper (Eric) Jacques, Frankfort, KS, Jay (Jennifer) Harper, Overland Park, KS, and Joe (Stephanie) Sedlacek, Hanover, KS; brothers, Brian (Gina) Wassenberg, and Alan (Sue) Wassenberg; grandchildren, Madison Harper, Kennady Harper, Megin Jacques, Magi Jacques, Marin Jacques, Grayson Harper, Quinn Harper, Ava Sedlacek, Noah Sedlacek, Weston Sedlacek, Josie Sedlacek and Ellie Sedlacek; nieces, Kim Wassenberg Hull, Shannon Wassenberg, and Bryanne Wassenberg; nephew, Cody Wassenberg; and cousin, Donna Forgey.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel, c/o Kinsley Mortuary P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
