Janice Miller, 79, of Cawker City, KS, formerly of Marysville, KS, passed away September 30, 2025, at Bryan Medical Center West Campus in Lincoln, NE.
A memorial service will be held in Marysville and will be determined at a later date.
Janice was born November 1, 1945, the daughter of Chester and Lola (Ralstin) Kistler. She grew up in Hastings, NE, where she attended school and graduated from Hastings High School in 1964. While in high school, she met Cecil Miller at the local roller-skating rink. The two were united in marriage on September 17, 1965, in Hastings, and together they were blessed with three children. This year, Janice and Cecil joyfully celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
In Hastings, Janice worked as a secretary for Rankins Realty. From there, she moved on to work in the main office at Hastings High School. In 1972, the family relocated to Marysville where Cecil continued his career with the Union Pacific Railroad. Janice devoted many years to her family as a homemaker before later joining USD 364 around 1978, where she served as secretary for both Marysville Junior and Senior High Schools. She loved her work and cherished the friendships she built with students and colleagues alike. After the 2003–2004 school year, she retired.
In July 2004, Janice and Cecil moved to Cawker City, KS, to enjoy life at Waconda Lake. They treasured evenings on their boat, especially on the 4th of July, watching fireworks reflect across the water.
Janice’s happiest times were spent with family. She especially enjoyed their Colorado vacations, where summers were filled with camping and winters with skiing. In her younger years, she loved bowling, and throughout her life she found joy in family gatherings and making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They both are excited to be expecting their first great-great-grandchild in March.
She was a longtime member of the Methodist Church in Marysville.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil; children, Bill (Karen) Miller of Tyler, TX, Brad Miller of Ft. Worth, TX, and Becky McDowell of Lincoln, NE; brother, Dick Kistler of San Jose, CA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three former family members that were still special to her, Melissa (Miller) Schlake, Pat (Miller) Brookshire, and T.J. McDowell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Shirley Kistler.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
