Jean Frances Spiller, 84, of Frankfort, Kan., passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018, after a two year long courageous battle with cancer at the Frankfort Community Care Home.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.  Rev. Jim Akins will officiate.  Janet Plegge will play the organ while the congregation sings “How Great Thou Art”, “It Is Well with My Soul” and “Amazing Grace”.The pallbearers will be Joe Young, Sean Spiller, Albert Young, Kevin Spiller, Robert Young and Michael Spiller.Burial will be in the Frankfort Cemetery.In remembrance of Jean, a reception for family and friends will follow the interment at the church.Jean was born on May 5, 1934 at Manhattan, Kan., to Warren and Frances (Johnson) Thompson.  She had two older brothers, Howard and Ronald "Pud".  The family lived in Frankfort where her mother was a homemaker and father ran the local John Deere implement business. She went to school in Frankfort then attended Marymount College is Salina where she received a degree in art.Jean married Bob Welliever, also a Frankfort native, and they moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1957. Together they had three daughters, April, Robyn and Johnna. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and for many years placed the needs of her growing family above all else. She and Bob divorced but remained friends and partners in raising their daughters.In 1987, Jean rekindled an old friendship with Wayne Spiller at their 35th Frankfort High reunion. They married in 1991 and spent the next few years traveling the country in their 5th wheel before coming back to their home roots on the Spiller homestead north of Frankfort to enjoy their retirement years. She volunteered many hours of selfless service to the United Methodist church and her community.Jean enjoyed traveling, gardening, the Arts, reading and spending time with the children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kind and loving spirit, her artistic talent and creativity and devotion to her family.Survivors include her husband, Wayne; daughters, April LaMarca, Frankfort, Robyn Thompson, Whitefish, MT, and Johnna Young, Douglas, AZ; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jean was also the proud and loving step-parent to Wayne's children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Howard and Ronald Thompson; and grandson, Taylor Thompson.Memorials will be designated later and can be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
