JoAnne M. Habr

JoAnne Marie (Scheetz) Habr, 88, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Superior, Neb. Visitation was Sunday, May 13, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary, Hanover. Rosary service was at 7 p.m., Sunday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Hanover.             Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Monday, May 14, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Hanover. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated.  Janet Fritschi was organist and the congregation sang "Come to Me," "Amazing Grace," "I Am the Bread of Life" and "On Eagles Wings."Pallbearers were Floyd Ray Mullens, Jr., Sutton Garlick, Cody Melton, Patrick, Habr, Travis Bruns and Kieyn Omon. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Hanover.   JoAnne was born in Hanover, Kansas on August 17, 1929 to Aloysius B. and Cecilia A. (Loseman) Scheetz. She graduated from Hanover High School in 1947, and married Frank J. Habr on August 17, 1948, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Hanover, Kans.   Frank, a navy veteran, graduated from Kansas State in 1950 as a petroleum geologist. For the next 15 years, his career gave them the opportunity to live in several states including Alaska, and two years in Tehran, Iran.  During this time their five children were born, each in a different state.   They then settled in Midland, Texas in 1965 where JoAnne started her career as a seamstress, working in high-end ladies boutiques. Frank passed away in 1977, and in 1980 JoAnne moved back to Hanover.   In Hanover JoAnne worked as a cook at Ricky’s Café, and was director of the Hanover Senior meal program. She also worked at the Hollenberg Ranch Pony Express Station for several years. JoAnne served on the Hanover City Council and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.   JoAnne’s hobbies included sewing, quilting, crocheting and bird watching.   Preceding her in death were her husband Frank, her parents, and brothers Paul A. Scheetz, Charles B. Scheetz, and Thomas G. Scheetz.   Survivors include her children Linda J. Melton, Beatrice, Neb.; Warren F. Habr, Arizona; Pamela J. Whittington, Glenwood Springs, Colo.; June M. (Frank) Vculek, Webber, Kans.; and Toni (Floyd) Mullens, El Reno, Okla.; sister Charlene F. Johnson, Waldorf, Md.; brother Jim Scheetz, Webber, Kans.; grandchildren Shannon (Tom) Bruns, Carlsbad, NM; Cody Melton, Beatrice, Neb.; Patrick (Katie) Habr, Jacksonville, Fla.; Sutton (Shawna) Garlick, Midland, Tex.; Robin (Jamie) Uribe, Marysville, Kans.; Christle (Dustin) Walker, Yukon, Okla.; and Floyd Ray (Jamie) Mullens Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah; step grandchildren Bradley (Karrie) Vculek, Jason Vculek, Casey (Jared) Blocker, and Stephen (Kim) Schultz; 12 great grandchildren; and 14 step great grandchildren.             Memorial gifts will go to the Washington County Community Foundation/Friends of Hollenberg Station Fund, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
