John A. Nietfeld, 89, of Marysville, KS, died February 8, 2023, at Blue Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Blue Rapids, KS. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, February 12, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 12, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 13, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Quentin Schmitz and Father Tony Lickteig officiated. The musicians were Rosemary Forst, Rachel Massoth, Paula Landoll Smith and Wayne Kruse. Music included “On Eagle’s Wings”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace”, “Song of Farewell” and “City of God." The pallbearers were Sam Welch, Jim Shum, Josh Heeney, Nathan Heeney, Mike Kennedy, J.J. Wilson and Andy Kwapnioski. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. John was born on March 5, 1933, to Joseph and Marie (Nieberding) Nietfeld near Marysville, KS. He graduated from Marysville High School. John was a farmer and cattleman. He worked for USDA Crop Insurance for more than 30 years, retiring as a regional claims manager specialist for Kansas and Colorado. On July 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to Bernice Goeckel at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Debra, Richard and Cindy. John liked traveling and later spending his winters in Arizona. He enjoyed square dancing, boating, playing cards and being around his friends and family. He was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Winifred Nietfeld and brother, Paul Nietfeld. Survivors include his wife, Bernice; children, Debra (Jerry) Lambert, Seneca, Richard (Joni) Nietfeld, Marysville, and Cindy (Steve) Heeney, Leawood, KS; grandchildren, Andy (Kandy) Kwapnioski, Marysville, Josh Heeney, Overland Park, KS, and Nathan Heeney, Scottsdale, AZ; step grandchildren, Amy (Jim) Shum, Home, and Sara Pacha, Marysville; and eight great grandchildren, Wylde Kwapnioski, Cash Kwapnioski, Ruby Kwapnioski, Charlie Shum, Lydia Shum, Layla Shum, Skyler Pacha and Aden Pacha. A memorial fund has been established and will benefit St. Gregory’s Parish School. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary. Funeral for John A.
