John W. Shaw

John W. Shaw, 68, of Hanover, Kan., died May 11, 2019 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Kan. Visitation will be Thursday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary in Hanover.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, May 17 at the Hanover City Cemetery.  Father Joseph Kieffer will officiate. The honorary pallbearers will be Aidan Goeckel, Addyson Goeckel, Anna Goeckel, Collin Finley, Megan Tegtmeier, Andrew Gugenhan, Leanna Gugenhan, Alivia Gugenhan and Lindsey Gugenhan. John was born April 18, 1951, at Clay Center, Kan., to Merel and Dorothy (Diederich) Shaw.  In 1969, he graduated Linn High School and joined the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam.  After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Greenleaf and worked as a plumber. On August 11, 1979, he married Regina McVean at Greenleaf, Kan.  Together they had a daughter, Amber.  They later divorced. On February 14, 1986, he married Roxy Rettig Prevatt at Washington.  In 1988, they moved to Arizona.  In 2003, they moved to Hanover, where he went to work for Rolling Hills Pork, until his retirement. John liked fishing, hunting and 4-wheeling.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and socializing.  John was a member of the Shaw Post #235 American Legion in Greenleaf. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Shaw; sister, Sharon Fletcher; and brother-in-law, Elwin Meuli. Survivors include his wife, Roxy; daughters, Amber (Andy) Goeckel, Washington, and Diane (Mark) Gugenhan, Hanover; sisters, Ruth (Joe) Hiltgen, Kay (John) McGrath, both of Greenleaf, Patricia Meuli, Abilene, Kan., and Alice (Stan) Lohmeyer, Clay Center, Kan.; brother, Robert Shaw, Concordia, Kan.; brother-in-law, Robert Fletcher, Clay Center; nine grandchildren, Collin Finley, Megan Tegtmeier, Andrew Gugenhan, Leanna Gugenhan, Alivia Gugenhan, Lindsey Gugenhan, Aidan Goeckel, Addyson Goeckel and Anna Goeckel; and three great grandchildren, Jaxson Tegtmeier, June Tegtmeier and Chyler Finley. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
