Joni Garcia

Joni Garcia, 61, of Marysville., died July 22, 2019 at Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids, Kan.   Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. Family will receive friends between 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.   A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 31 at the United Methodist Church in Marysville.  Pastor Dale Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in Marysville City Cemetery. Joni was born January 31, 1958 in Marysville to Mervin and Marjorie (Pauley) Nord.  In 1976, she graduated Marysville High School.  After graduation, she began working for the Union Pacific Railroad and retired as an engineer, working for forty years.  As an engineer she seldom missed a call to go to work.  She broke barriers as one of the few women locomotive engineers, which had been a predominantly male job. Christmas was always her favorite time of the year.  She loved decorating with family and going different places to see the lights.  Gardening, long walks, buying lottery tickets and the most exciting, watching Jesse race, were a few of her favorite pastimes. Joni looked forward to her yearly “girl trips” with Deneise and Susan.  Each and every trip was full of laughter and adventure.  They would return home with a carload of memories and works of art.  Joni will be remembered by all as one of the purest hearts and having a genuine smile.  She will be missed. Survivors include her mother, Marjorie; her husband, Rick Garcia; daughter, Jenni Schell, Marysville; two stepchildren, Ricardo Garcia and Andrea Garcia (Omar Gonzalez), California; sisters, Phyllis (Dane) Clark, Gypsum, Debra (Bill Harrod) Nord, Oregon; two grandchildren, Sayer and Sadie; nephew, Brendon (Tabatha) Clark and niece, Betsey (Charlie) Potts. Preceding her in death was her father, Mervin. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
