Kenneth "Kenny" L. Crome, 87, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at Cambridge Place in Marysville.
Visitation took place on Tuesday, May 13, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kinsley Mortuary, with the family receiving friends from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
A funeral service celebrating Kenny's life was held on Wednesday, May 14, at 10:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran (Hermansberg) Church, located north of Bremen. Rev. Aaron T. Fenker, Sr. officiated. The organist was Kathy Pralle and music included, “How Great Thou Art”, “Children of the Heavenly Father”, “I Know that My Redeemer Lives”, and “On Eagle’s Wings.”
The pallbearers were Derek Pretre, Dylan Pretre, Michael Crome, Matthew Crome, Mitchell Crome, and James Hagedorn.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Kenny was born on November 16, 1937, near Herkimer, Kansas, to Lavern and Esther (Wasserman) Crome. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Bremen, completing his education there before obtaining his GED while proudly serving in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1955 to 1964. His service included a year of active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
On December 15, 1958, he married Karen A. Ohlde at St. John Lutheran Church near Palmer, and together they welcomed four cherished children into their family.
A devoted farmer, Kenny also worked for 16 years at Landoll Corporation. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served two terms as an Elder. In addition to his dedication to his church, Kenny contributed to his community through his involvement with the Herkimer Township Board, the Washington County Rural Water District, and the former Herkimer Co-op Board of Directors, as well as the Twin Valley Board of Directors.
Family was of utmost importance to Kenny. He delighted in spending time with loved ones, enjoying short weekend trips to farm shows, state fairs, and visiting Colorado. Known for his friendly nature and willingness to lend a helping hand, he made a lasting impression on those around him.
Kenny is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; children, Lyle (Betty) Crome of Louisburg, KS, Donna (Bob) Ferris of Marysville, and Kurtis Crome of Herkimer; sisters, Carol (Richard) Hagedorn of Herkimer and Darlene (Howard) Iler of Verdi, MN; sister-in-law, Rita Siebold of Clay Center, KS; brothers-in-law Royce (Clarice) Ohlde, Larry (Marilyn) Ohlde, both of Palmer, and Fred Rogge of Topeka, KS; along with eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger on October 7, 2022; sister, Volanda Feldhausen; brothers-in-law, Lanny Siebold and Frank Feldhausen; and sister-in-law, Idonna Rogge.
