Kevin David Allerheiligen

Kevin David Allerheiligen, 55, of Topeka, Kansas, died peacefully on November 28, 2025 at the Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) in Topeka where he lived.

Kevin was born April 28, 1970 in Wichita, Kansas to parents David C. and Judy K. (Crosier) Allerheiligen. When Kevin was 3 years old, he was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Tuberous Sclerosis, which causes non-cancerous growths to develop in many organs around the body leading to problems such as epilepsy, autism, learning difficulties and kidney issues. As his special needs required a higher level of care, he spent the majority of his life living at KNI in Topeka.

The staff at KNI provided Kevin with exceptional care and became a second family to him. They worked tirelessly to see beyond his challenges and limitations, strove to understand and meet his needs, and treated him with dignity and respect. They took him on many outings over the years including a trip to Branson, MO, KC Royals games, rodeos, and a special visit to celebrate his grandmother, Elda Allerheiligen’s, 100th birthday. Kevin’s family will be forever grateful for the incredible love and care they provided to Kevin throughout his life.

Kevin had many special gifts including his bright smile, his greetings such as "How ya doing?" when he saw the people he loved, and his incredible fortitude which helped him endure many medical challenges during his life. Kevin enjoyed singing songs and moving to the beat, and found happiness in life’s simple joys - birthday parties, car rides, having thumb wars, and going to the movies. He especially enjoyed playing the piano and finger painting pictures. But more than anything, he loved going to bed, as that was his happy place full of peace and comfort. And, he had a positive impact on others; one of his nursing caregivers shared that he was one of the brightest parts of her days and helped shape the way she shows up and cares for other patients.

Kevin was loved deeply by his family. He was preceded in death by his loving, devoted parents: his father, David C. Allerheiligen and his mother, Judy K. (Crosier) Ford as well as his grandfather, Clarence “C.W.” Allerheiligen. His grandmother, Elda Allerheiligen, passed away six days after Kevin.

Survivors include his sister and guardian, Amy Allerheiligen (BG Weiss) and nieces Alexis and Peyton Weiss (Louisville, CO), step-father Jerry Ford (Norco, CA), step-mother Lydia Allerheiligen (San Antonio, TX), step-siblings Meg (Randy) Shiflet (Redding, CA), Doug (Kathi) Ford (Norco, CA), Clay Ford (Redding, CA), Kelley (Pat) Frost (San Antonio, TX), Chris (Claudia) Surbey (Santa Monica, CA); and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, and his dedicated caregivers at KNI.

Kinsley Mortuary is assisting with private funeral services and burial to be held Friday, December 12, in the Marysville City Cemetery in Marysville, Kansas.
