Marysville

Kimberly "Kim" R. Prothe, 59, of Marysville, KS, passed away on August 22, 2025, at her home with family.

Visitation was on Thursday, August 28, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, with family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 29, also at Kinsley Mortuary.  A luncheon followed immediately at the American Legion in Marysville.

Kim was born on September 5th, 1965, in Kansas City, MO, to LeRoy and Dixie (Christian) Adolph. They moved to Marysville in the early 70s, where Kim would attend Lincoln Elementary School and later be part of the graduating class of 1984 at Marysville High School. Kim had her first daughter in 1983.

In 1985, Kim married Kenneth Welch of Paola; they had 2 children and then later divorced. Kim went on to marry Ronald Prothe of Osawatomie in 1993, where she gained another son through marriage, and they moved back to Marysville. She and Ronald later divorced in 2014.

Kim worked various jobs throughout her young adult life. One job sparked her interest more and more into becoming a nurse when she ended up as the unit secretary at CMH in Marysville. After many years there, she decided that she wanted to go back to college and get her degree in nursing. She attended Bryan LGH in her 30s and failed her first try. Kim had so much drive and passion to be a nurse; she never gave up and went back and finally completed her degree and became an RN in 1999. Kim prided herself on helping others and always strived to see what more she could accomplish. She started as an RN at CMH and later established her own business, "Above and Beyond Home Healthcare, LLC" in 2006. She helped so many people in the many years she ran her business and touched so many lives. Sadly, in 2014, her business came to an end, and she decided to hang up the keys and go back into a different type of nursing setting. She worked at Frankfort Care Home for several years. She then moved on from there and worked at the Infusion Clinic at the Beatrice Hospital in Nebraska. Eventually, she left there to be closer to home and take care of her father, LeRoy, when he fell ill. She became a case manager for Monocoa and Associates in Topeka, able to work from home, until her own ongoing illness and health prevented her from continuing on.

Kim had a passion for traveling the world. From a young age, she traveled with her parents all over the world. From camping to cruises, she was ready. The open road was her friend. As an adult and mother, she loved going on cruises and trips with her daughter Nichole. They would try to go somewhere different every year and add new experiences to their list. Kim explored many different trips with her grandchildren, her niece and great nephew, her brother-in-law, and her best friends. She was always ready to go on an adventure. Always happy to plan! Kim was a devout and loyal Chiefs fan, and you could catch her every game day, either at Arrowhead Stadium or in her chair at home, cheering on her Chiefs. Kim loved to be outside in her yard working and trying to get her small gardens to grow out back. Kim had a true passion for 80s rock music and loved going to concerts. Kim's greatest joy of all, though, was her family and being a grandma, BOBO, and Mimmy. She showed up to every birth, every game, every graduation, every birthday. She wouldn't miss any of it for the world. Her grandkids were her whole world, and she enjoyed every minute she could with them all. Kim had a heart of gold; she molded everyone she knew to be better. She always had such encouraging words and information to give. Her legacy will live on.

"I love you to the moon and back!"

"This is not Goodbye, this is I'll see you later."

Survivors include her daughters, Nichole (Jeffrey) Davis, Marysville, and Rebekah Adolph, Las Vegas, Nevada; ten grandchildren, Tyree, Osie, Connor, DeShawn, Annyiah, Jaiana, Jainaia, Jeffrey Jr, JusTelle, and MadeLynne; niece, Amanda (Darren) Thomsen, SpringHill, KS; great nephew, Alan Jones, SpringHill, KS; her beloved cat Ollie "Dennis"; and so many friends that became like family over the years.

Kim is preceded in death by her loving parents; beloved sons, Michael Prothe and Justin Welch; and dear sister, Michelle Wiard.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Meadowlark Hospice or the National Down Syndrome Society, sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
