Leonila R. Meyn, 75, of Hanover, KS, died September 4, 2021 at Manhattan, KS. Visitation will be Friday, September 10, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary in Hanover. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 11 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover. Burial will be in the Hanover Cemetery. Nellie was born to the late Jorge and Juana Rue, January 17, 1946, in Panungyan Mendez Cavite, Philippines. She attended St. Rita College High School in Manila, Philippines and then graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the National Teachers College in Manila, Philippines. After graduating college, Nellie moved to the Netherlands as part of a church mission. In 1978, Nellie met George Meyn at the MacDill Air Force Base NCO Club in Tampa, Florida. They were married July 27th, 1979. Nellie was a military wife for the next 14 years living in Florida, Spain and Germany before relocating to George’s hometown of Hanover, Kansas after he retired from the Air Force in 1993. Nellie enjoyed travelling, family gatherings and attending her children/grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts. Nellie was well known for her cooking, especially for the eggrolls and pancit that she would make for special occasions. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Alberto Rue. Nellie is survived by her husband, George, and her three children: Robin Geck, Monroe, North Carolina; Chris (Renee) Meyn, Hanover, Kansas; and Jessica (Aaron) Thornton, Manhattan, Kansas. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Braylon, Avery, Cora and Zoey Meyn. The family asks that people make donations to help fund cancer research in lieu of sending flowers.
