Lorna (Gleue) Slupianek, age 91, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was defined by faith, service, and a deep love for others.

Lorna was born on July 25, 1934, to William and Rosemond (Scheele) Gleue of Bremen. She was born at Meadow Brook Farm in the home built by her grandfather, Fritz. She attended Riggert and Bethlehem Grade Schools and graduated from Marysville High School in 1952.

She lived her life guided by her faith in the Lord, believing that caring for others was one of God’s greatest callings. She demonstrated that faith through hard work, kindness, and a quiet servant’s heart.

Lorna was a longtime member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville, Kansas. Her faith was central to her life, and her love of singing found a joyful home in the church choir, where she shared her voice for many years.

For much of her life, Lorna dedicated herself to caring for others and their families. She cleaned homes and cared for households not simply as a housekeeper, but as a trusted presence who truly became part of each family’s life. She took great pride in her work and deeply cherished the relationships she built along the way. She would want those families to know how grateful she was to be welcomed into their homes and hearts—thank you for treating her like family and for the friendships she held so dear.

In her younger years, Lorna was an accomplished athlete, playing second base for the Sender Pontiac All Stars, a fastpitch women’s softball team, where she earned MVP honors. Her love of the game stayed with her throughout her life. She was a devoted baseball fan, especially of the Kansas City Royals, faithfully cheering for Salvador “Salvy” Perez, and she greatly admired the legendary Ted Williams.

Family was the heart of Lorna’s world. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured every moment spent together.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Bradley Pretre; her beloved grandchildren, Ashley Richardson and Zachary Peterman; and her siblings Merlin, Wilma, Harold, Ray, and Vernon.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie (Pretre) Richardson of Longview, Texas, and Jennifer (Slupianek) Dawson (Kevin) of Kansas City, Missouri; her grandchildren, Derek Pretre (Brandy) of Marysville, Kansas, Dylan Pretre of Marysville, Kansas, Amanda Richardson of Longview, Texas, Makayla Santana (Max) of Anaheim, California, and Chase, Cruz, and Cooper Dawson, all of Kansas City, Missouri.

She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ellen Nichols (Nick) of Hawaiian Gardens, California; her brother, Bill Gloy (Shirley) of Topeka, Kansas; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Lorna will be remembered for her unwavering faith, strong work ethic, love of the game, and the countless lives she touched. We take comfort in knowing she now rests in eternal peace, welcomed home by her Savior with the words she lived by: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A Celebration of Life for Lorna will be held at a later date, to be announced by Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.
