Lyle Lewis Howell, 95, Frankfort, died Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Frankfort Community Care Home in Frankfort.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 26 at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort.

A vigil service was held at 7 p.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church, Frankfort.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 27 at Annunciation Catholic Church and Father Anthony Chendumalli and Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated.  The musicians were Marilyn Dressman and Bill Gallagher.  Music included "Faith of Our Father", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Gift of Finest Wheat", "Irish Blessing" and "You are Mine."

The pallbearers were Mark Howell, Aaron Howell, Matt Howell, Matt Bergmann, Edward Hsu and Doug Bruna.  The honorary pallbearers were Dean Seematter, Frank Lyons, Walt Zimmerling, Robert Schwarz, Robin Wright and Herschel Mentgen.

Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Lyle was born in rural Frankfort on July 18, 1928, to Fred and Mary (Hadorn) Howell.  He attended school in Frankfort, graduating from Frankfort High School in 1947.  After graduation he served in the U.S. Army and was later honorably discharged.  When Lyle returned home, he started and ran a Grade A Dairy until 1968, when he switched to a beef cattle operation. He farmed his entire life.

On May 5, 1951, Lyle was united in marriage to Frances Ann Noud at Annunciation Catholic Church.  To this union, they were blessed with two sons, Joe and Pat.

Lyle was a Cargill Seed dealer.  He liked checking on his cattle and horses, driving to look at the farm and attending rodeos, the Cheyenne and Kaw Valley.  Something else that Lyle enjoyed was gardening.  He enjoyed having one each year and loved to savor the tomatoes he would grow.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and served on the church council.  Lyle also headed up the Jolly Farmers 4-H.  He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and events.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and siblings, Walter Howell, Madelyn Turnbull, Marge Glynn, Kenny Howell and Roger Howell.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; sons, Joe (Penny) Howell, Marysville, Pat (Kathy) Howell, Denver, CO; five grandchildren, Aaron (Annie) Howell, Matt Howell, Alyse (Edward) Hsu, Meredith (Matt) Bergmann and Mark (Gentry) Howell; and seven great grandchildren, Charlie Howell, Lillian Howell, Henry Hsu, Allan Bergmann, Wrigley Howell, Leona Bergmann, Brecken Howell.

A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort.
