Carol Lynne Houtz, 66, of Marysville, KS, died December 2, 2022, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Sunday, December 11, from 2-9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 12, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. Father Quentin Schmitz officiated. Deb Landoll-Moore played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang “In the Garden” and “What a Wonderful World.” The pallbearers were Jim Pavlacka, Mark Pavlacka, Jonathan York, Tyler Whetstone, Brett Grauerholz and Anthony Lefeber. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. On April 28, 1956, Carol Lynne was born to Herbert and Leona (Koch) Houtz in Marysville. She attended St. Gregory’s Catholic School and graduated from Marysville High School in 1974. After graduation, she attended cosmetology school in Salina. Aside from living short times in various towns, Lynne lived most of her life in Marysville. She loved the outdoors, gardening, canning and cooking. Lynne was especially fond of animals and rescued many. She liked making new friends and sharing stories. Lynne worked for a short time as a beautician, but most people will remember her by the various jobs she held in the food service industry in Marysville. She worked in restaurants, grocery stores and nursing homes. She was very proud of her nieces and nephews; Kent Leem, Kelly Leem Siler, Kris Leem Sarsons, Jim Pavlacka, Mark Pavlacka, Lindsey Houtz Whetstone, Haylee Houtz York, Amanda Houtz Herron, Emily Houtz Grauerholz and Elise Houtz. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Galen Houtz and Gene Houtz; and sister, Sharon Pavlacka. Survivors include her brother, Brad (Susan) Houtz, Manhattan; sister, Shirley Leem, Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Kim Houtz, Marysville; and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Pony Express Veterinary Clinic in Marysville to help with placing animals. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
