Mabel White

April 11, 1924 — December 26, 2019

Mabel White, 95, Vermillion, KS, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Eastridge in Centralia, KS. Visitation was Sunday, December 29, from noon to 8 p.m. at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort, KS. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 30, at the Old Methodist Church in Vermillion.  Rev. Virgil Warren officiated.  Ruth Ann Warren and Terry Smith were the musicians.  Music included Craig Young, Kerry White, Bill White, Clint White, Lance Murrow and Alva Meade. The honorary pallbearers were John Worden, John Harper and Jack Boyle. Burial was in the Vermillion Cemetery. Mabel was born at the rural home of her parents, Nels and Amy (Erickson) Magnuson of Wilton, ND on April 11, 1924. She met Roy White of Vermillion when he was on the harvest run in North Dakota, and they were married May 16, 1953. Together they followed the wheat harvest each year from Texas into Canada for twenty-five summers. Mabel enjoyed cooking, which was fitting as she made meals for the “harvest boys” and then cooked for more than twenty years at the Vermillion school. She was a devoted homemaker and also found time to work at the local bank and churches. She was a member of the Vermillion Methodist Church, where they attended, and was custodian there for fifty-five years. Mabel lived a long and full life, and sadly lost many along the way. She was preceded in death by Roy on January 24, 1994.  Additionally her parents, her brothers and sisters-in-law Carl (Evelyn), Roy (Martha), Glen (Marge), Gordon, and brother-in-law Paul Johns, and her sisters and brothers-in-law Elna (George) Rants and Ruth (Johnny) Johnson, as well as children Bill and Beverly, grandson Charles, and great grandson Taylor.   She is survived by her sister Ada Johns, daughter Carol and son-in-law John Worden, daughter-in-law Gail White, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Mabel loved gatherings of family, loved ones, and friends, and will be missed by many. We are comforted knowing she was a believer in Christ and is resting in His arms. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel, Frankfort.
