Marie Fett

Marie Fett, 72, of Marysville, Kan., died March 6, 2019 at The Lighthouse in Marysville. Visitation will be Monday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12 at Marysville Christian Fellowship.  The congregation will have an opportunity to share memories during the service.  Rev. Bill Rushing and Rev. Brad Wicks will officiate.  Music will include "Blessed Assurance”, “How Marvelous”, “Victory in Jesus” and “I’ll Fly Away”. The pallbearers will be Ben Rushing, Gene Traxel, David Rushing, Gary Phillips, Nathan Rushing and Samuel Phillips. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Marie was born on June 16, 1946 to Samuel and Artibe (Henley) Rushing in Houlka, Miss.  She grew up in Russell, Kan. and graduated in 1964 from Russell High School.  From there she continued her education at Emporia State Teachers College earning her bachelor’s degree in education. Afterwards she held a fellowship for one year at Emporia.  Marie taught one year in Kingman before coming to Marysville in 1970, where she taught thirty-one years, retiring in 2001.  She taught English, Journalism and oversaw the yearbook and school newspaper.  Up until 2014, she was a substitute teacher. On July 21, 1984, Marie married Wesley Fett at the Church of the Nazarene in Junction City.  They were blessed with a daughter, Melissa. Marie enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling, especially to Branson.  She was an active member of the Marysville Christian Fellowship Church.  Marie loved cooking and baking for family and friends and taking pictures.  She enjoyed playing the piano which she played by ear.  She passionately loved shaping the hearts, minds, and lives of her students over the years. Above all, she deeply enjoyed loving people.  Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Wesley in 2017; brother, John Rushing; and sister, Betty Rushing. Survivors include daughter, Melissa (Ryan Musser) Fett, Washington, DC; sisters, Joyce (Gary) Phillips, Dawson, Neb., Virginia (Gene) Traxel, Junction City; brothers, David Rushing, Bonner Springs; Bill (Dale) Rushing, Oakhurst, Cal., Ben (Kris) Rushing, Olathe, Nathan (Laurie) Rushing, Gardner and Tom (Deb) Rushing, Osawatomie; and sister-in-law, Donna Mae (Sharon) Ocker, Sioux City, IA.
