Marilyn J. Nelson

Marilyn June Nelson, 91, of Berryton, Kansas, and formerly of Marysville, passed away peacefully at her home on August 6, 2026.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 11, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, at the Marysville Methodist Church in Marysville. Rev. Johnny Tucker officiated.  The organist was Gail Gilkerson.  Hymns included "He Touched Me", "In the Garden", and "How Great Thou Art."

The pallbearers were Shannon Montgomery, Shane Montgomery, Jordy Nelson, Boston Urban, Briggs Urban, Beau Urban, and Jess Urban.

Burial was held in the Marysville City Cemetery with full military honors given for PFC Wesley Nelson who served in the Korean War.

Marilyn was born to Paul K. and Lela L. (Freeborn) Roberts on September 21, 1934, in Marysville. In 1952, she graduated from Marysville High School.

On January 24, 1954, Marilyn was united in marriage to Wesley Nelson and they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in January of 2004.

Marilyn worked for several years at Peoples Saving and Loan Association and then at City Sewing Machine Company. When her two children were very young, she worked at Community Memorial Hospital at night and Wes was home with the children.

She loved doing volunteer work, especially at her church, helping with Bible School crafts, serve Lenten lunches, soup suppers and helping with funeral lunches. She belonged to the Church Circle, RSVP and the lunch bunch.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Wesley; son, Dean; brother P.K. Roberts; and sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Robert Bruna.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda (Craig) Kane; daughter-in-law, Maureen Nelson; a sister-in-law, Elaine Roberts; grandchildren, Shannon Montgomery, Shane Montgomery, Shelby Montgomery, Megan Urban, Jordy Nelson, Jess Urban, Nikki Nelson, Chris (Kathy) Kane and David (Charisse) Kane; and twenty-one great grandchildren; and nephews and nieces, Randy Roberts, Ron Stone, Bob Stone, Linda Mathis, Barbara (Al) McAlister and Judy (Kevin) Weakland.

A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
