Mary was born in Marysville, KS, the daughter of Margaret and John Peterson, on September 2, 1942. During her grade school years, she attended the Pecenka School near Bremen through the 8th grade. Mary then graduated from Marysville High School in 1960. She developed many lifelong friendships and was active in the class of 1960 alumni group. She continued her education at Kansas State University before her marriage and family became her priority.
On October 14, 1962, she married Armin Holle at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville. To this union they were blessed with four children: Brenda, Brian, Wayne, and Darrin. They lived on the family farm southeast of Bremen.
In addition to helping Armin on the farm and raising four children, she worked for USD 364 in several positions as a para-professional for over 20 years. She found joy as 4-H club leader for the Bremen Hustlers 4-H Club for 25 years, as well as serving on the Marshall County Extension Council. Mary enjoyed assisting her children in preparing 4-H projects and countless 4-H events. School activities and sporting events kept Mary busy as the children grew up.
Mary accompanied Armin to the World Pork Expo in 1984. Armin knew his hogs, but it was Mary who came away as the judging champion, winning a new car as the top prize.
Mary enjoyed playing cards with the Bremen Card Club for many years. She was a member of the Bremen Social Club and Immanuel Lutheran Church LWML. In her spare time, she enjoyed treasure hunting at garage sales and auctions, and an occasional trip with Armin to nearby casinos, but the biggest joy in life was her family.
Survivors include her children, Brenda (Mark) Harwood, Topeka, KS; Brian (Lisa), Bakersfield, CA; Wayne (Donna), Bremen, KS; and Darrin (Katina), Gardner, KS; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Gary (Joyce) Holle, Bremen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Armin; her parents; and her brother, David Peterson.
A memorial fund has been established to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
