Melvin E. Kramer

February 25, 1934 — May 28, 2019

Melvin Edward Kramer, 85, of Axtell, died May 28, 2019 at the Life Care Center in Seneca. Visitation will be Thursday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 31 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy will officiate.  The Lector will be Stephanie Albers.  Kathy Buessing will play the organ while the church choir sings "On Eagles Wings", "Be Not Afraid", “Seed Scattered and Sown" and "Come Home". The pallbearers will be Bryce Buss, Paul Deters, Rusty Kramer, John Deters, Travis Kramer, Mark Deters, Shane Kramer and Adam Deters. Burial will be in St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery, north of Axtell. Melvin was born February 25, 1934 at Axtell to Edward and Rose (Dalinghaus) Kramer.  He graduated from Baileyville High School and then worked for Wintersheets Milling Company in Seneca. On April 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to Patricia Glynn at St. Bridget Catholic Church.  They farmed and lived north of Axtell, in the St. Bridget area, for forty-eight years, before moving to Axtell in 2005. Melvin was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, playing softball, dancing, singing and polka music. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard Kramer and Norbert Kramer; and sister, Eileen Hasenkamp. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; children, Bill (Caroline) Kramer, Axtell, Kathy (Earl) Kramer, Corning, Kan., Mary (Nick) Deters, Baileyville, Kan., and Joan (Ron) Schroller, Oketo, Kan.; siblings, Gladys Durkees, Maryville, Mo., Wilma Steinlage, Seneca, and Jerry Kramer, Stanberry, Mo.; seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home.
