Obituary

Melvin Rengstorf, age 90, of Bremen, KS, entered eternal life with his Lord and Savior on February 24, 2026, at the Hanover Hospital after a battle with cancer.

A visitation was held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Kinsley Mortuary from 1 to 8 p.m. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service took place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 27, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bremen. Rev. Albert James Bader officiated.  The organist was Kathy Pralle, and the soloist was Ashley Waggy.  Hymns included "Amazing Grace", "Old Rugged Cross", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", and "Abide with Me."

The pallbearers were Shane Rengstorf, Cody Rengstorf, Jacob Rengstorf, Shawn McGrath, Joel Endorf, and Paden Pralle.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.  Military Honors were presented by American Legion Post #163.

Melvin was born on October 26, 1935, in Odell, NE, to Walter and Clara (Sohl) Rengstorf. He attended first and second grade at Riggert School in Bremen and third through eighth grade at Bethlehem Lutheran School. Melvin was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he held various offices. He was baptized on November 3, 1935, and confirmed on April 10, 1949. His confirmation verse was 1 Timothy 6:12.

On September 6, 1959, Melvin was united in marriage to Lowine Holle at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bremen. Together they were blessed with two sons and two daughters.

Melvin entered the United States Army on October 10, 1955, and served as a Sergeant until June 5, 1957.

For most of his life, Melvin farmed. After retirement, he worked for Munsterman Carpentry.

Melvin loved playing cards with family and friends and was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events and especially loved being outdoors. For many years, Melvin played softball and coached and umpired baseball and softball.

Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters, Alice Sears, Adelia Maatsch, Verna Riggert, and Elvira Carlson; brother, Eugene Rengstorf; and grandson, Craig Holle.

Survivors include his wife, Lowine; children, Bruce (Kimberly) Rengstorf, Edmond, OK, Colleen (Kim) Holle, Marysville, KS, Todd (Amy) Rengstorf, Bremen, KS, and Dana (Robert) Rombeck, Beattie, KS; sister, Lola Holle; sister-in-law, Lola Mae Rengstorf; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran School and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
